Welcome to MASN’s discussion space for tonight’s Nationals-Braves game at Nationals Park. I’ll post updates and analysis throughout the game here, and if you’d like to participate, leave your thoughts in the comments section, and I’ll respond to you there.
7:12: Not a good start for Livan Hernandez, who has given up a single, a double and a sacrifice fly in the first three batters. The Braves lead 1-0. It’s only the fifth run scored on Hernandez in the first inning of a game this year.
7:24: It’s now 2-0, after a double steal that turned into a botched rundown by the Nationals. Brian McCann took off for second, and as the Nationals got him caught in a rundown, Jason Heyward took off for home. Eric Hinske struck out on the play, so if the Nationals had been able to tag McCann before Heyward scored, the inning would’ve been over. But they couldn’t, and Heyward slid around Ivan Rodriguez’s tag as Adam Dunn fired home. It’s 2-0 Braves headed into the second inning.
7:45: Hernandez has settled down, retiring six of seven batters in the second and third innings. Trouble is, the Nationals look like they’re going to have a tough time scoring on Tim Hudson, once again. They had a chance to score in the third, but Adam Kennedy ended the inning with a 3-6-3 double play. It’s still 2-0 Braves.
8:06: Hernandez puts away Melky Cabrera on an 86-mph fastball to end the top of the fourth. He’s thrown 71 pitches through four innings, and struck out three.
