Nats move Espinosa to Triple-A Syracuse

Shortstop Danny Espinosa, the Nationals’ third-round pick in the 2008 draft who could be starting in the team’s middle infield as soon as next season, was promoted from Double-A Harrisburg to Triple-A Syracuse today, two days after hitting three homers in a game.

Espinosa is hitting .262 with 18 homers and 54 RBI this season; he also has a .798 OPS. He could get a September call-up with a strong month at Syracuse, though it’s also possible the Nationals will have him finish the season there and wait to bring him to the majors.

Here’s a piece I wrote in spring training about Espinosa overhauling his swing mechanics.
