Yunesky Maya makes his big-league debut for the Nationals tonight, and will probably pitch five to six innings for the Nationals, manager Jim Riggleman said. From there, the Nationals might try to use Ross Detwiler in a relief role. Detwiler, who was activated from the disabled list today, is due to get three or four innings somewhere this week, Riggleman said, and with Livan Hernandez pitching tomorrow, it’s less likely Detwiler would get good chunk of work.
But the Nationals aren’t anywhere near a point where they’d see Detwiler as a reliever, Riggleman said. For now, they don’t have another place to put him, but they’d likely take another look at him as a starter next spring.
