Nationals lead Mets 1-0

NEW YORK | We’re in the fifth inning here, and the Nationals have a 1-0 lead over the Mets on a rare RBI from Alberto Gonzalez. With men on first and third, the infielder punched a single to right in the top of the fifth, bringing Roger Bernadina home and collecting just his fifth RBI of the season.

It came after some nice baserunning from Bernadina, who took off on a hit-and-run with Ivan Rodriguez at the plate and prevented Rodriguez’s grounder from becoming a double play. Then, he took third on Willie Harris’ infield single when the Mets tried (unsuccessfully) to throw out Harris at first.

Livan Hernandez has been sharp so far, throwing just 42 pitches in the first four innings. And Adam Dunn is up to 199 strikeouts for the year; he fanned in the first inning.
