Danny Espinosa leaves game after fouling ball off right foot

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Nationals might have just been dealt their nastiest injury of the spring: Danny Espinosa had to be helped into the clubhouse by two coaches a minute ago, with little weight on his right leg. Two Nationals players said Espinosa fouled a pitch off his foot.

We might not know anything about Espinosa’s foot until he gets an X-ray, but if he broke a bone, it would be a serious blow for the Nationals. The second baseman is in the middle of an impressive spring that’s had talent evaluators around the game talking up his Rookie of the Year chances. He’s hitting .324 this spring with a pair of homers, and his 12 RBI lead the team.

I’ll have more information on Espinosa as soon as I get it, but if he’s seriously hurt, it’s bad news for the Nationals.
