Nationals-Braves start will be delayed (updated)

The tarp is currently on the field at Nationals Park, as a weather system dropped spitting rain over the field a few minutes ago. We’re obviously going to be in a rain delay before the Nationals and Braves get started.

The system swept in quickly, with winds blowing the topmost corner of the tarp back toward second base and momentarily trapping a grounds crew member inside as it folded over on itself. The open windows in the press box sent a slew of game notes flying into the stands, confetti-style, and both fans and writers went scurrying from the rain.

But the Nationals are saying the system should blow through quickly, and it’s already starting to look clearer here. We’ll keep you posted on a start time.

Update at 1:05 p.m.: The tarp is coming off the field and we’re told to expect a first pitch around 1:30 p.m.

Update at 1:37 p.m. : We’re under way at Nationals Park after a 32-minute delay, and now it’s turned into quite a nice, if slightly chilly, day.
