Rick Ankiel sitting with wrist injury again

PHILADELPHIA - Nationals center fielder Rick Ankiel is out of the lineup for the second straight night, still nursing a sore wrist after attempt two sliding catches on Monday night against the Giants. Manager Jim Riggleman said Ankiel “did a little more to it than we thought,” though he said it wasn’t bad enough to warrant a MRI.

Ankiel will be available to pinch hit in an emergency, but the Nationals will try to stay away from him for another night in hopes he can get back in the lineup tomorrow.

“It’s a nagging thing,” Riggleman said. “He’s just not real comfortable going out, taking a lot of batting practice right now or anything like that. We’re going to shut it down here for tonight.”

Jerry Hairston Jr. starts in center again for the Nationals tonight; Riggleman said though Laynce Nix has played there in the past, the Nationals probably won’t try him in center since they didn’t get him any time there in spring training.
