Nationals shut out by Vazquez in 3-0 loss to Marlins

A day after they dropped 10 runs on the Mets to extend their winning streak to five games, the Nationals’ run is over. And it ended in inglorious fashion.

They were shut out by Javier Vazquez, managing just five hits off the Marlins pitcher, in a 3-0 loss to Florida. John Lannan gave up three runs early, and lost for the 13th time this year.

Vazquez, who only allowed a run against the Nationals in July, struck out seven batters in the complete game. It was his first shutout in more than six years, and the Nationals’ only chance to break it up died in the seventh inning, when Brian Bixler got picked off first with a runner ahead of him.

More from the clubhouse in a little bit.
