The Nationals remain in the race for pitcher Carl Pavano, the top free agent starter left on the market, but the right-hander is still entertaining interest from a handful of teams, according to a source with knowledge of the process.
The Twins, who the 35-year-old has pitched for the last two years, have strong interest in Pavano. But the source said there are still more possible destinations for Pavano than Washington or Minnesota.
Pavano went 17-11 for the Twins last year, posting a 3.75 ERA and positioning himself for another multi-year deal. He is believed to be seeking a three-year deal, and with so many teams still seeking pitching after Cliff Lee signed with the Phillies, he's in a strong position in the market.
The source said there is no timetable for when Pavano will pick a team, but also said he could have a new home any day.
