Orioles extend medical partnership with MedStar Health
Building on ten seasons of trusted care and commitment to the community.
The Baltimore Orioles are proud to announce the renewal of their medical partnership with MedStar Health, marking a decade of dedicated collaboration focused on elite care, performance innovation, and community connection.
For 10 seasons, MedStar Health has served as the trusted medical provider of the Baltimore Orioles, with a core group of team physicians led by SEAN CURTIN, MD, head team physician for the Baltimore Orioles and a MedStar Health primary care sports medicine expert, to help players in the major and minor leagues stay healthy, strong, and ready to compete, year-round.
Additionally, a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team of MedStar Health physicians, athletic trainers, and specialists, provide a support network ensuring the same high quality of care for the entire Orioles organization.
“The team at MedStar Health, working alongside our talented athletic training staff, have been a tremendous partner in planning, preparedness, and fulfilling Major League Baseball health protocols,” said MIKE ELIAS, Orioles Executive Vice President And General Manager. “This partnership ensures the expert care and performance support for our players, while dedicating time and opportunities to give back to the communities we serve.”
Each year, MedStar Health and the Orioles conduct an Emergency Action Planning session with MedStar Health team physicians, Oriole staff, stadium security, and EMS partners, to ensure the safety of players, coaches, and umpires.
In 2022, MedStar Health and the Orioles launched the MedStar Health Orioles Pitching Lab in Bel Air, Md. This cutting-edge performance development facility uses 3D motion analysis for Orioles’ pitchers and coaches to assess and improve pitching mechanics and performance. Pitchers at every level benefit from advanced biomechanical analysis, injury prevention strategies, and individualized training programs.
“The MedStar Health Orioles Pitching Lab is a shining example of how we’re innovating the game,” said Dr. Curtin, who is also president of the MLB Team Physicians Association. “We’re proud to be a trusted resource to the Orioles organization.”
The impact of this partnership extends far beyond the diamond. MedStar Health and the Orioles continue to champion public health and fan engagement through unique initiatives, like the beloved Baby Birds program, which gifts newborns at MedStar Health’s Maryland hospitals with co-branded Orioles baby gear, to welcome the next generation of fans into the nest.
“As we celebrate ten seasons together, this partnership between the Orioles and MedStar Health stands as a model of excellence, innovation, and commitment to quality healthcare,” said Dr. Curtin. “Together, we’re delivering world-class care to these athletes, creating exciting opportunities for fans, and we hope, making a lasting impact across our community.”
