The Orioles have added a B-squad game to their exhibition schedule at 10 a.m. Sunday in Bradenton. They also play the Phillies at 1:05 p.m. in Sarasota.
No further details are available at the moment, but it's one way to get more innings and at-bats for certain players.
And speaking of at-bats, Luke Scott doesn't want to collect them as the designated hitter. He's made that point pretty clear. He wants to play in the field...I also considered, "You can Luke, but you better not touch."

Not sure how that's going to work with Garrett Atkins assigned to first base and Nolan Reimold and Felix Pie elbowing each other for regular duty in left field.

Scott has made two starts at first base this week. He's done a nice job scooping throws in the dirt and reaching to save balls from zipping past him, but he's also made an ill-advised cut-off and let a grounder get past him for a single that a more experienced player at the position probably would have gloved.
Manager Dave Trembley seemed pretty adamant about not playing Scott at first, but something changed. Maybe it's just his way of finding at-bats for Scott, especially if Reimold's Achilles starts barking and he's ticketed for more DH duty (again, that word). Or perhaps the Orioles want to convince scouts that Scott is more than just a streaky hitter and increase his value in a possible trade.
Whatever's the case, I don't see how Scott can do anything with the Orioles besides accept that he's the regular designated hitter. The roster's construction makes it hard to fathom him playing full-time in the field, whether he deserves that opportunity or not.
Scott's not letting the issue clog his mind or slow his bat. He's 4-for-8 with four RBIs and three walks in five games. He drove in two runs in the first inning last night with a bases-loaded single into right field.
