Jonathan Tucker was 2-for-2 with a double, run scored and stolen base, and showed tremendous hustle despite the lopsided score. "The guy who's having a nice camp is Tucker. Tucker's playing very well," manager Dave Trembley said. "He did a lot of nice things. We had a baserunning session in the back today on reading balls in the dirt and advancing the base, and he did very well." Here's more from Trembley: "(Chris) Tillman threw a couple real good back-to-back changeups. Fastball is better. Still got to locate. I like (Cla) Meredith. I think Meredith is showing real good sink and showing a real good slider. He looks like a possibility of a situational right-hander, a real good matchup guy - come in, get an out, get two outs, go from there. Obviously, (Alberto) Castillo was the victim of some poor defense. He threw strikes and has done a real nice job when he's had opportunities." As for Bell's struggles at third base, Trembley said, "I'm sure he feels real bad about it and we all do, but it's not because we haven't worked at it. He spends 20 minutes every day taking ground balls and doing individual defense. Mistakes are part of the game, and today was an unfortunate game for him. He had routine plays and didn't make them. I think the lesson to be learned is you have to make the routine plays, especially in spring training when you're counting pitches on your pitchers and trying to get those innings built up." Jake Arrieta allowed three runs (one earned) and two hits in his only inning. He walked one and struck out two. "I think he tries to force it, to be honest with you," Trembley said. "I think he tries to overthrow somewhat. He's got a very good arm, he keeps the ball down for the most part, but I think he needs to trust himself a little bit more and trust the stuff that he has. And I think that, more than anything, is a process of maturity. Pitchers that are here, young guys, want to make the club. Every pitch seems like it's life and death for them, and sometimes they probably would be better off backing off a little." Here's the reason Tillman needed a towel from the dugout (because I know you care): "There was some pine tar that got either on the rosin bag or something. Or the rosin bag got wet, so his glove was wet. That's why they brought out the towel. His hand was getting wet." Sounds more like a water problem than pine tar. We'll go with that one.
