The Orioles won their 40th game last night, moving them 10 games above .500 and 1 1/2 games behind the Yankees in the American League East.
Last year, the Orioles didn’t win their 40th until July 23. In 2010, they didn’t win their 40th until Aug. 11.
The Orioles hadn’t collected their 40th win in June since 2008.

The Orioles hadn’t collected their 40th win in June since 2008.
With his two singles last night, Brian Roberts moved past Al Bumbry for seventh place on the Orioles’ all-time multi-hits list with 388.
Mark Reynolds is hitting .297 with eight doubles, six home runs, 19 RBIs, 18 walks and 19 runs scored in 29 games since May 4. He also committed his eighth and ninth errors last night.
J.J. Hardy led all shortstops with 18 RBIs in May, but he went eight games without one before last night’s double broke a 1-1 tie.
Adam Jones is batting .328 (21-for-64) with three home runs in 16 interleague games.
Jim Johnson hasn’t allowed a run in 28 of his 31 appearances, and his ERA is down to 1.14. He’s 21-for-22 in save opportunities. And as I pointed out last night, he had 21 career saves coming into the season.
Johnson was 21-for-37 in save chances in his first six years in the majors.
The Orioles are 12-6 in one-run games and 18-1 when a starter goes at least seven innings.
Tonight’s starter, Wei-Yin Chen, is 4-0 with a 2.72 ERA at Camden Yards. He has four quality starts in six outings at home.
Chen’s shortest outing of the season – and obviously, his major league career – came against the Nationals on May 20, when he lasted only 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs and eight hits.
Reminder that tonight’s game will air on Fox. It’s the network’s time slot.
Also, a reminder that left-hander Dontrelle Willis is joining Triple-A Norfolk’s rotation tonight – the 17th different pitcher to start for the Tides.
Shameless plug alert: I’m back on “Wall to Wall Baseball” today from noon until 2 p.m. on MASN. And you may recognize the guy being interviewed by Tom Davis on “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” at 6:30 p.m.
