The injuries keep mounting for the Orioles.
Second baseman Robert Andino left today’s game in the top of the sixth inning after appearing to jam his left shoulder while diving for a ball.
Alex Avila singled to score Prince Fielder and extend Detroit’s lead to 3-0. Andino continued to lie face-down on the ground, as if frustrated that the ball got past him. He actually was dealing with the pain.

Alex Avila singled to score Prince Fielder and extend Detroit’s lead to 3-0. Andino continued to lie face-down on the ground, as if frustrated that the ball got past him. He actually was dealing with the pain.
Andino paced around the infield with assistant athletic trainer Brian Ebel at his side and eventually walked to the dugout. Andino winced when Ebel tested the shoulder, and he clearly was frustrated as he disappeared down the dugout tunnel.
Ryan Flaherty has replaced Andino. Steve Tolleson also can play second base.
We’re waiting for the Orioles to provide an update.
Andino went 0-for-2 today and is batting .230 with five homers and 21 RBIs. He became the regular second baseman again after Brian Roberts returned to the disabled list with a hip injury.
Roberts still hasn’t decided whether to undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in the hip.
Miguel Gonzalez allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings, with five walks and three strikeouts. He threw 100 pitches, 59 for strikes. Luis Ayala replaced him with the bases loaded and retired Don Kelly on a ground ball.
Today’s attendance: 30,439.
Down on the farm, Brian Matusz is still listed as Triple-A Norfolk’s starter today, further confirmation that he won’t be called up to make Wednesday’s start in Minnesota.
