Bundy has pitched scoreless and no-hit ball through 2 2/3 innings and play was halted at 7:50 p.m. with the score tied 0-0. Wilmington had a man on first, two outs and a 3-1 count to their leadoff hitter, Whit Merrifield.

Bundy, the Orioles’ top pitching prospect, started the game with a 1-2-3 first inning on just nine pitches. He got a pop out, a called strikeout and another pop out. He got No. 2 hitter Orlando Calixte looking on a nice slow curveball on a 0-2 pitch for his first strikeout of the night.

His second inning was overpowering like the first, as he got a pop out, fly out to center and strikeout on just nine more pitches.

He got the first two batters out in third before issuing a five-pitch walk to No. 9 hitter Geulin Beltre. He had a 3-1 count on Merrifield when the umpires stopped play and had the tarp put on the field.

The rain hadn’t really hit much yet, but it had become very dark and it was clear that it was coming and the field needed to be covered. Now the question for the Keys becomes whether Bundy go back to the mound when and if play resumes. We’ll see how long this delay lasts.

Bundy was very sharp against the first eight hitters tonight but lost some fastball command just before the rain delay. There are no radar gun readings listed on the scoreboard here. He threw first-pitch strikes to seven of 10 batters.

The plan was for Bundy to pitch six innings tonight and if the pitch count was low enough, maybe a seventh.
