Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts has decided to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a labral tear in his right hip.
Roberts played in one rehab game last night at short-season Single-A Aberdeen. He was scheduled to play again tonight and perhaps be activated tomorrow in New York, but the persistent discomfort in his hip led to today’s decision.

Roberts said he’ll have the surgery in a week to 10 days, and he projected a four-to-six month rehab period. He’s expected to be ready for spring training.
