Teagarden’s double and O’s pitching combines for 1-0 win over Tampa Bay

The Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays at their own game – winning with solid pitching.
After Miguel Gonzalez pitched seven shutout innings to match David Price pitch for pitch, the Orioles finally broke a scoreless tie when Taylor Teagarden drove an RBI double to the gap in left-center in the top of the 10th in a 1-0 win over the Rays.
The win was the Orioles’ 11th straight in extra innings and was their 10th win in a row in a game decided by one run.
The Orioles posted back-to-back shutouts…The Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays at their own game – winning with solid pitching.

The Orioles posted back-to-back shutouts and the O’s pitching held Tampa Bay scoreless over the last 21 innings in this series. Over the three games this weekend, the Orioles scored five runs and Tampa just two.
In the top of the 10th against Joel Peralta, Mark Reynolds drew a one-out walk and scored on Teagarden’s double with two outs. Teagarden was just 2-for-27 as an Oriole until that very big hit.
Two starts ago, Gonzalez gave up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings against Tampa Bay. But today he pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits with four walks and four strikeouts. He threw 103 pitches, 59 for strikes.
O’s starters pitched 14 shutout innings in the last two games of this series. Over the three games this weekend, Orioles starters allowed just two runs and 13 hits over 19 2/3 innings for an ERA of 0.92.
The Orioles concluded a 4-2 road trip to New York and Tampa Bay and went 5-4 over the last nine games against the A’s, Yankees and Rays.
The Orioles are now 57-51 and move back ahead of Tampa Bay into sole possesion of second place in the AL East. They now return home to begin a 10-game homestand Monday night against Seattle.
Weekend summary:
* O’s take two of three games by a combined 5-2 score.
* O’s offense produced just 21 hits and three extra-base hits with no homers during the series.
* O’s team ERA was 0.67 in the series and the starters ERA was 0.92 as they held Tampa to two runs on 15 hits in three games and held the Rays without a run over the series last 21 innings.
* After going 9-9 against Tampa Bay last year, the Orioles are 6-6 this year and now the all-time series is even at 126-126.
