masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgThe scoreless streak by Orioles pitchers came to an end tonight in the eighth inning, but Chris Tillman pitched a gem in beating his former team as the Orioles topped Seattle tonight, 3-1, at Camden Yards.

It was the good way to start a three-game series and ten-game homestand, as the Orioles improved to 58-51 overall and 26-26 at home. Baltimore has now won three in a row and six of their last eight. They are 12-7 over the last 19 games.

Tillman gave up just one run and five hits over 7 1/3, throwing 99 pitches. He improves to 5-1 with an ERA of 2.38 over six starts. Tillman has allowed two earned runs or less in five of his six O’s starts.

Over the last four games, Orioles starters have an ERA of 1.00, allowing just three earned runs in 27 innings. The O’s staff had put together 28 consecutive scoreless innings until Seattle scored in the eighth. It was the longest run by the Orioles since they put together 30 straight scoreless from August 27-31, 2010.

The Orioles got all three runs in the last of the second. Mark Reynolds plated the first run with an RBI double and scored on a Nick Markakis two-run homer. It was his 11th of the year.

The Orioles cooled off a Mariners team that came to town with eight wins over its last 10 games and 14 in the last 20.

Pedro Strop got the last two outs in the eighth, and Jim Johnson pitched out a jam in the ninth to get his 33rd save. Zach Britton (1-1, 8.35 ERA) will be on the mound tomorrow night for the Orioles in Game 2 of this series.
