Machado tripled and reached on an infield hit Thursday in his major league debut, and he homered twice on Friday. All that remained was the double, which he collected off Mendoza to score Wilson Betemit.

Omar Quintanilla, who went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer last night, followed with a two-run double to reduce the Royals’ lead to 7-3 and knock Mendoza out of the game.
Two runs scored for Kansas City in the sixth inning after Miguel Socolovich replaced starter Chris Tillman – the last on a double steal. Socolovich gave up a run and two hits in 1 1/3 innings to leave his ERA at 6.97. It was 1.90 in 28 appearances at Triple-A Norfolk.
Matt Wieters committed his ninth error tonight. He had five in each of his first three seasons.
Update: The Orioles have lost two of three to the Royals. As usual, the starting pitching makes the difference. Wei-Yin Chen and Chris Tillman weren’t very good, but Miguel Gonzalez was dominant.
Troy Patton hasn’t allowed a run since July 2. He’s turned in 17 straight scoreless appearances.
