Colton Cowser’s leaping, game-saving catch in Colorado was supposed to be a launching pad for the Orioles. Elevating above the fence to rob a walk-off home run was supposed to lift the club to the third Wild Card.

The Orioles haven’t won a game since that night.

The losing streak is at five and the scoreless-innings streak is at 18 heading into today’s series finale against the Red Sox at Camden Yards. Boston is going for the four-game sweep before the Guardians arrive in Baltimore.

“That’s why it goes back to, ‘Is momentum real or not?,’” said manager Craig Albernaz. “That’s the biggest thing. For us, Cowser made that outstanding catch, but you still have to go out and play the next day and the next day and the next day. The league just doesn’t let up, especially the schedule we have in front of us. We know what we’re playing for. You still have to go out there and compete, make sure you’re prepared to go out there, which our guys are, and right now, we’re just falling on our faces right now.

“Like I’ve been saying all year, I know it’s tough for the fans to hear it, but we’ve been in this spot multiple times this year and our guys continue to find a way to keep on going, and that’s all we can do. All we can do is show up tomorrow, be ready to play and just play the game in front of us.”

They’re back here today with Kyle Bradish on the mound trying to be the stopper.

Bradish is 7-12 with a 4.01 ERA and 1.419 WHIP in 27 starts. He’s faced the Red Sox twice and allowed four runs over 11 innings.

Bradish is 2-6 with a 6.12 ERA in 11 career starts against Boston. Jarren Duran is 2-for-13 with a double and home run. Trevor Story is 1-for-12 with a homer and six strikeouts. Connor Wong is 2-for-5 with a homer.

The bench has an extra player with the Orioles recalling outfielder Rece Hinds this morning. He’s wearing No. 62.

Hinds is in left field today. Luis Robert Jr. isn’t in the lineup against a left-hander.

Albert Suárez was designated for assignment a fifth time after covering the last three innings last night and allowing two runs.

The Orioles purchased Hinds’ contract from the Marlins on Aug. 3. The Reds drafted him in the second round in 2019 out of the IGM Academy in Bradenton and traded him earlier this year.

Hinds is a right-handed hitter with a career .169 average and .637 OPS in 52 games over parts of three seasons. He can play all three outfield positions.

The composition of the roster is now 15 position players and 13 pitchers. The 40-man roster is down to 39.

The Orioles face their third left-hander in the series, Payton Tolle, who’s posted a 3.23 ERA and 1.099 WHIP in 23 innings. He’s struck out 147 in 131 innings.

Tolle faced the Orioles twice at Fenway Park. He tossed six scoreless innings on June 3 and allowed four runs and eight hits with nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 on July 20.

Gunnar Henderson is 3-for-6 with three doubles against Tolle. Christian Encarnacion-Strand is 2-for-3 with a home run.

Right-handers are hitting .207/.271/.356 against Tolle, and left-handers are hitting .252/.301/.420.

The Red Sox placed Ceddanne Rafaela on the 10-day injured list with a right quadriceps strain and recalled Nate Eaton.
