The Orioles have made a change to the front office with 15 games remaining in the regular season.

Matt Blood, promoted in November to vice president of player and staff development, is no longer in the organization, according to a source.

Blood is still listed on the team’s staff directory, but he’s gone. He was at the ballpark during the last homestand that concluded yesterday.

President of baseball operations Mike Elias hired Blood in 2019 as director of player development. Blood most recently had served as Rangers’ director of baseball innovation before changing organizations.

Blood spent three years as USA Baseball’s director of the 18-and-under National Team Program, and he previously spent seven seasons as an area scout in the Cardinals organization, where he worked with Elias.

The latest bump in November removed Blood’s title of vice president of player development and domestic scouting, which he held since October 2023.

In his newest role, Blood continued to oversee all aspects of minor league player development and operations, but with duties expanded to provide executive support for manager Craig Albernaz in major league staff and player development, as well as supporting the sports medicine and performance departments.

Other promotions last fall included Brendan Fournie going from senior director of baseball strategy and operations to assistant general manager. He oversees baseball economics, advanced scouting and salary arbitration, and also provides roster and transaction support.

Will Robertson went from director of pro personnel to vice president of domestic scouting, Chad Tatum from manager of domestic scouting to assistant director of domestic scouting, Hendrik Herz from manager of domestic scouting analysis to assistant director of draft operations, and Kevin Carter from manager of pro scouting to assistant director of pro scouting.

Still to come is whether other changes are in store for the franchise as it sits again in last place. The Orioles are three games behind for the last Wild Card going into a weekend series in Toronto.

Departures from the organization tend to be done quietly. Kerry Watson, hired in 2023 as executive vice president of public affairs, left in June. He joined the Mayor’s Office on Aug. 31 as deputy chief of staff.
