The Orioles got into the mindset again yesterday of turning the page fast, flushing, moving on to the next game.

They do it after each loss, and as the finish line to their season becomes more visible.

Today offers a chance to claim the series in Toronto before flying to New York for a three-game series against the Mets. The Orioles are three back for the last Wild Card, exactly where they stood yesterday morning.

They caught a break with the Guardians losing in Minnesota, but they won’t catch Cleveland or anyone else in the third spot without building a legitimate winning streak.

The Blue Jays and Rangers also are ahead of the Orioles in the standings. They’ve got to hurdle three teams, and the Twins are only 1 ½ behind them.

Dylan Beavers remains in the leadoff spot today. Coby Mayo remains at cleanup as the designated hitter. Jackson Holliday is lowered to seventh, followed by Leody Taveras and Colton Cowser.

Cowser has a hit in each of his last eight games against Toronto since May 29, batting .458 (11-for-24) with two doubles, three home runs, nine RBIs and six runs. The last Oriole to hit safely in nine straight against the Blue Jays in a single season was Adley Rutschman (11) from Aug. 9-Oct. 3, 2022.

Pete Alonso hit his 35th home run yesterday and the 299th of his career.

Mayo has reached base in 16 consecutive games. He’s hitting .300 and slugging .840 when ahead in the count this season.

Reliever Yaramil Hiraldo is on the taxi squad.

Trevor Rogers made his 28th start today. He’s allowed three runs in 14 innings this month, with no walks and 17 strikeouts. He’s walked only nine in his last nine games.

Rogers faced the Blue Jays on May 29 in Baltimore and allowed four runs in six innings. Kazuma Okamoto and Charles McAdoo both his two-run homers in the seventh.

In two starts at Rogers Center, Rogers has allowed two earned runs and four total over 10 innings. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 4-for-9 with three walks against Rogers in his career. George Springer is 0-for-10 with four strikeouts.

Dylan Cease is generating Cy Young buzz with a 2.40 ERA and 1.041 WHIP with 227 strikeouts in 161 1/3 innings. He’s allowing only 5.6 hits and 0.6 home runs per nine innings.

Cease has registered a 3.89 ERA in seven career starts against the Orioles. He also has a 2.86 ERA in 16 career starts at Rogers Centre.

Alonso is 2-for-11 with a home run and six strikeouts against Cease. Samuel Basallo is 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs. Taveras is 3-for-11 with two doubles and five strikeouts.

The Orioles are averaging 3.97 pitches per plate appearance, which ranks second in the majors, while the Blue Jays are 27th at 3.80.
