The Orioles will try for the sweep tonight at Citi Field before returning to Baltimore for the last homestand of the season.

Fangraphs has increased the Orioles’ playoff odds to 3.5 percent. They were below 2 before last night’s 7-5, 11-inning win. Do whatever you choose with that information.

The Guardians had a walk-off win last night to stay three games ahead of the Orioles with 10 to play. They defeated the White Sox again today 6-3, which bumped Chicago to the third Wild Card and the Orioles hold the tiebreaker.

Chris Bassitt starts tonight, with the game airing exclusively on ESPN, and the Orioles are off Thursday. They aren’t listing their starters for the weekend series against the Brewers.

Shane Baz came out of last night’s game after being hit on the right elbow by a 105.1 mph line drive. X-rays were negative.

“It just got me right in the bone,” Baz told the media. “Kind of just went numb. I really wish I could have stayed in and been able to grind through it. Just couldn’t really grip the ball. I think if I had maybe a few more minutes, I could have been all right. But I was just playing it safe.

“Barring anything weird playing catch, I think I’ll be fine.”

If so, Baz could make two more starts and finish as the team leader. Thirty-two would be a career high.

Bassitt is making his 19th appearance and 17th start while trying to lower a 4.88 ERA and 1.594 WHIP. He’s allowed 10 runs and 19 hits over 16 1/3 innings in his last three starts.

Bassitt’s return to Citi Field, where he pitched in 2022, probably wouldn’t carry the same drama as Pete Alonso’s arrival. Alonso hit his 300th home run last night and received a curtain call. But Bassitt went 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA and 1.145 WHIP in 30 starts, then a career high, in his only season with the Mets.

Bassitt has made three starts against them and allowed one run with one walk and 25 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings. He owns a 2.58 ERA and 1.017 WHIP in 18 starts in Queens.

Francisco Lindor is 5-for-17 with a double and home run against Bassitt. Marcus Semien is 1-for-12, Juan Soto is 2-for-12 and Mark Vientos is 1-for-9 with six strikeouts.

Infielder José Barrero is on the taxi squad. Jackson Holliday is out of the lineup again.

Coby Mayo has reached base in 19 consecutive games and he’s the designated hitter tonight.

Mayo became the 26th player in Orioles history last night with an inside-the-park home run and the first since Jorge Mateo on Aug. 20, 2023 in Oakland. He joined Austin Hays as the only Orioles to do it in extra innings. Hays circled the bases in the 10th on Aug. 11, 2020 in Philadelphia.

Samuel Basallo is catching.Rece Hinds is in right field.

The bullpen didn’t allow an earned run last night in seven innings, the most since April 3, 2023 (7 1/3) in Texas.

The Mets were listing right-hander Robert Stock, the Cardinals’ second-round draft pick in 2019 out of USC who registered a 5.93 ERA and 1.747 WHIP in eight games (seven starts). But they switched to right-hander Xzavion Curry, who’s made eight relief appearances and posted a 3.44 ERA in 18 1/3 innings.

Stock, who’s surrendered only two home runs in 30 1/3 innings, goes on the 15-day injured list with numbness in his fingers.

Curry was recalled to make his first appearance since Aug. 27. He worked five innings on July 31 but otherwise hasn’t gone more than three with the Mets, when he blanked the Pirates on one hit on Aug. 8 in Pittsburgh.

Curry has a 4.28 ERA in 70 career major league games, including 16 starts, with the Guardians, Marlins and Mets. He posted a 3.45 ERA this year in 15 games (13 starts) with Triple-A Syracuse.

The four relief appearances for Curry against the Orioles resulted in eight runs and 14 hits allowed in 10 innings.
