The Orioles made another roster move this evening due to an injury.

They’re trying to hang in the Wild Card chase while losing more players.

Second baseman Jackson Holliday is on the 10-day IL with left wrist inflammation. Infielder José Barrero went from taxi squad to active roster after the Orioles selected his contract from Triple-A Norfolk.

Holliday’s move is retroactive to Tuesday, making him eligible to return on Sept. 25. The season ends two days later.

Jeremiah Jackson is starting at second base again in the series finale against the Mets at Citi Field.

Holliday began the season on the IL following surgery to remove a broken hamate bone suffered while swinging a bat in Sarasota. He didn’t make his 2026 debut until May 19.

In his most recent game, Holliday went 2-for-4 in the Orioles’ 2-1 win over the Mets. Being out of the lineup tonight against a right-hander, Xzavion Curry, offered a clue about a health issue.

Manager Craig Albernaz told the media earlier today that Holliday was “banged up” and “feeling it the past couple days.” He didn’t offer specifics, but the roster move explained it.

Holliday is batting .229/.300/.340 with 12 doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 30 RBIs in 98 games after appearing in 149 last season.

Barrero is wearing No. 54 and waiting to make his Orioles debut. He was batting .202/.305/.400 with 14 doubles, a triple, 23 homers and 57 RBIs in 124 games with Norfolk. He walked 53 times and struck out 140.

Barrero, 28, signed with the Orioles as a free agent in July 2025 and played in 53 games with Norfolk. They re-signed him to a minor league deal in October.

Born in La Habana, Cuba, Barrero has appeared in 161 games in the majors over parts of five seasons, the first four with the Reds and in 2025 with the Cardinals. He’s hit .182 with a .495 OPS.

Shortstop is Barrero’s primary position, but he’s also played second base, third base and the outfield.

The 40-man roster is full. The IL is holding 13 players, and catcher Samuel Basallo is playing through discomfort in his right shoulder. Shane Baz came out of last night’s game after being struck on the right elbow by a 105.1 mph line drive, but X-rays were negative.
