The Orioles brought four new players into the organization this afternoon while making major changes to their 40-man roster.

Right-hander Josh White was claimed on waivers from the Marlins, right-hander Chase Hampton from the Cardinals, left-hander Philip Abner from the Mets and catcher Zach Morgan from the Giants.

That was only part of the storm.

Outfielder Leody Taveras, who’s eligible for arbitration, cleared waivers and elected free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.

Outfielder Heston Kjerstad cleared waivers, as reported earlier, and is set to become a minor league free agent at 5 p.m. Catcher Yohel Pozo and right-hander Yosver Zulueta will join him after also clearing waivers.

MLBTradeRumors.com projected that Tavaras would receive $3.7 million in arbitration, which made him a likely non-tender. He batted .219/.288/.345 with 18 doubles, six triples, eight home runs and 56 RBIs in 139 games.

Pozo went 7-for-27 with a home run in 19 games after the Orioles selected him off waivers from the Cardinals on July 23.

Zulueta was a June 28 waiver claim from the Cubs but didn’t pitch for the Orioles. He posted a 3.74 ERA in 20 games with Norfolk.

White, 25, was a fifth-round draft pick in 2022 out of the University of California who made his only major league appearance this season and allowed five runs in two-thirds of an inning against the Mets on May 31 at Citi Field. He walked four batters and surrendered a grand slam to Juan Soto. He has a 2.85 ERA and 17 saves in 160 minor league games and averages 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Hampton, 25, was a sixth-round selection by the Yankees in 2022 out of Texas Tech. The Nationals claimed him off waivers in September.

In three minor league seasons, Hampton has registered a 4.89 ERA over 44 starts and struck out 217 batters in 180 1/3 innings.

Hampton underwent Tommy John surgery in February 2025 and appeared in 17 games this season at three affiliates.

Abner, 24, was a sixth-round pick by the Diamondbacks in 2023 out of the University of Florida. He was claimed off waivers by the Giants and Mets this year.

Abner has made 18 relief appearances in the majors over the past two seasons and allowed 17 earned runs (19 total) with 26 hits, 14 walks and 15 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings.

The Giants drafted Morgan, 26, in the seventh round in 2022 out of Cal State University. He’s a right-handed hitter who’s also played first base, third base and left field in the minors and pitched twice in relief.

Morgan has reached Triple-A the past two seasons and is a career .235/.333/.347 hitter in 276 games. He’s thrown out 22 percent of runners attempting to steal.

An announcement on first baseman Ryan Mountcastle and left-hander Dietrich Enns is coming later today. The Orioles declined Mountcastle’s $7.5 million option, per sources, and they hold a $3.5 million option on Enns’ contract.

Left-hander Trevor Rogers is among eight players to receive the qualifying offer, per multiple reports. The Orioles will receive a compensatory draft pick if he signs with another club.

Update: The Orioles declined Enns’ option. Also as anticipated.

They also reinstated Kyle Bradish, Ryan Helsley, Tyler O’Neill and Jordan Westburg from 60-day injured list.

The 40-man roster has 37 players.
