Heim, who will turn 18 on June 27, is a switch-hitter. He batted .522 as a senior with two homers and 24 RBIs and just three strikeouts in 21 games. He was rated as the 170th-best prospect by Baseball America. He still needs to pass his physical and officially sign his contract.
The club also recently signed its ninth-round pick, lefty pitcher Mitch Horacek from Dartmouth. Horacek already has passed his physical and has reported to the club’s facility in Sarasota, Fla.
There remains three top-10 round picks that the team has not yet signed or agreed to terms with: First round pick, pitcher Hunter Harvey, supplemental first round pick (competitive balance round A) outfielder Josh Hart and seventh-round pick, Youngstown State third baseman Drew Dosch.
A major league baseball source tonight indicated there is a chance the O’s will come to terms with Harvey before the other two, which could even go down to the signing deadline of July 12. The Orioles could reach an agreement with Harvey by the end of this week.
