The Yankees were reeling, but then headed to Minnesota to face their longtime whipping boys, the Twins. And, per usual, they whipped them, scoring 29 runs in a four-game sweep. The Yankees scored just eight runs in three games in Baltimore.

That probably gives the Yankees some momentum as they return home to host the Orioles this weekend. That sweep last weekend won’t help the O’s now.

But the Orioles have won five in a row against the Yankees, outscoring them 28-13 in those games. The O’s are 15-8 in their last 23 regular season games against New York.

As usual, Robinson Cano will be the batter that most concerns O’s pitchers. He went 7-for-13 and hit the only Yankees homer last weekend at Camden Yards. Cano is 14-for-28 over his last seven games with four homers and 11 RBIs.

Will the O’s bats heat up this weekend? The Orioles scored just eight runs with a team average of only .206 in the series at Chicago. The Orioles are just 3-for-22 with runners in scoring position over the last four games.

The Red Sox, who are 4 1/2 games ahead of the Birds in the AL East, begin a 10-game West Coast road trip tonight while the Orioles play in the Bronx.

Another big weekend of O’s baseball has arrived.
