Davis has been an open book on this topic this year, repeatedly saying he has not used performance enhancing drugs and has never even thought about using them.

He was asked today if the upcoming suspensions serve as a deterrent in the future.

“I don’t know. Guys have obviously been suspended in the past and it hasn’t stopped everybody,” Davis said. “But, it’s good to know we are taking the right steps to punish those that are guilty.

“It’s unfortunate. There are a lot of good things going on in the game right now. Things that fans can get into. With social media now, you can almost be a best friend to your favorite player. But I’m glad we’re dealing with the issue.

“I stay as far away from it as I can. Just because I don’t want anything to do with it. Those guys made the decision for whatever reason, and now they have to live with the consequences. But we have too much at stake here to focus on, to dive into that. I try to focus on what I can control. I can’t control what those guys have done.”

With the season he is having, now at the 40-homer mark, Davis knew the suspicions about him and the questions for him would be coming. Does it bother him to be suspected of PEDs use by some fans or media?

“There are a lot of things we do as athletes that fans don’t get to see,” he said. “The workouts, the offseason training. The amount of time we sacrifice away from our families to get in shape and to stay in shape.

“It’s an easy copout to assume that, just because a guy is successful, that he is cheating. Everybody in this clubhouse has worked hard to be where they are at. But you can’t control what people think.

I’m proud of, not only the way the season has gone for me and my team, but how hard everyone in here has worked. As sophisticated as our testing is, why would you even try?”
