Showalter has talked to Chris Tillman about Sunday’s start against the Red Sox. Showalter told Tillman, who exceeded 200 innings in last night’s start, to think about it before making a final decision.
For now, the starters for the Red Sox series are Scott Feldman vs. Clay Buchholz on Friday, Wei-Yin Chen vs. Jon Lester on Saturday, and Tillman vs. John Lackey on Sunday.
Showalter indicated that he will use his regular lineups this weekend, since Boston is competing with Oakland for the best record and home field advantage in the playoffs.
The Orioles won’t recall left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada unless there’s a sudden change in plans.
Reliever T.J. McFarland will fly to Chicago early Thursday morning to attend to a family matter, but he will return to Baltimore in time for the 7:05 p.m. game against the Blue Jays.
McFarland will play winter ball in Venezuela this year. He’s a candidate for the rotation in 2014.
Infielder Alexi Casilla said he’s feeling better today. Casilla underwent a CT scan after slamming his head into Nick Markakis’ leg while chasing a fly ball on Monday. He was still a bit lightheaded yesterday.
Shortstop J.J. Hardy noted that Jonathan Schoop will be his fifth double play partner this season, joining Casilla, Brian Roberts, Ryan Flaherty and Yamaico Navarro.
