Not much to update on the Orioles’ search for a bullpen coach. I’m hearing that an announcement could come next week, and that Bill Castro and Scott McGregor are under consideration.

“We’re still working on that,” said executive vice president Dan Duquette, who didn’t want to offer a timetable.

Not much to update on the Orioles’ search for a bullpen coach. I’m hearing that an announcement could come next week, and that Bill Castro and Scott McGregor are under consideration.

“We’re still working on that,” said executive vice president Dan Duquette, who didn’t want to offer a timetable.

Castro and McGregor haven’t been contacted at this point. New pitching coach Dave Wallace will have major input in the decision.

If Mike Wallace had major input, it would take 60 minutes.

The Orioles added left-hander Chris Jones to the 40-man roster last night. Duquette pointed out that Jones was effective against left-handed hitters, and he wasn’t kidding.

Jones held them to a .196/.291/.268 line in their 128 plate appearances.

Could he emerge as a lefty specialist in the bullpen next season if the Orioles trade Brian Matusz?

I’m not predicting that Matusz will be dealt, but he wants to be a starter again and is due another raise as an arbitration-eligible player.

If Matusz gets his wish and joins the rotation, Jones is an option to replace him in the bullpen.

The Orioles have two catchers on the 40-man. They must decide whether to add Double-A Bowie’s Caleb Joseph or leave him exposed again in the Rule 5 draft. Same with Single-A Frederick’s Michael Ohlman.

Luis Exposito is a minor league free agent. The Orioles, underwhelmed by his defensive work, aren’t likely to bring him back under any conditions.

The BBWAA Awards finalists will be announced tonight beginning at 6 p.m. on MLB Network. If you miss the excitement or want to relive it, the program will air again at 8 p.m.

Davis lost twice last night to Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera in the Players Choice Awards, but he figures to get another crack at him for Most Valuable Player in the American League. The winner will be announced on Nov. 14.

No Oriole will be included among the Cy Young, Rookie of the Year or Manager of the Year finalists.

I voted for Rookie of the Year again this season. I’m not allowed to reveal my ballot until the winner is announced, but I still feel good about my top three.
