I’ve put together some stats to see how the Orioles players have fared in their careers on Opening Day.
Right-hander Kevin Millwood will make his 7th career Opening Day start tonight. He is 2-4, 3.34 in previous openers.
Last year, Millwood and Texas whipped Cleveland and Cliff Lee 9-1 in the opener as Millwood allowed just one run over seven innings.
Millwood’s Opening Day starts:
2003 – Philly at Fla: 6IP, 4H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 4K
2004 – Philly at Pitt: 6IP, 7H, 2R-ER, 0BB, 4K

2006 – Tex vs. Bos: 5IP, 7H, 5R-ER, 1BB, 3K
2007 – Tex at LA: 5IP, 5H, 3R-ER, 2BB, 5K
2008 – Tex at Sea: 6IP, 4H, 2R, 0ER, 3BB, 4K
2009 – Tex vs. Clev: 7IP, 5H, 1R-ER, 1BB, 5K
In the six starts, Millwood has pitched a total of 35 innings, allowing 32 hits, 13 earned runs with eight walks and 25 strikeouts.
Garrett Atkins: Is 0-15 in four career Opening Day games.
Cesar Izturis: Is batting .370-2-4 in seven Opening Day contests. That’s two of his 14 career homers coming in an opener, including last year’s two-run shot in the 8th off Phil Coke.
Adam Jones: Is 3 for 6 in two starts. Last year vs. NY, he had a huge game, going 3 for 3 with a triple, three runs, two walks and two RBI.
Julio Lugo: Is batting .387-0-3 going 12 for 31 in eight career openers. Lugo has hit safely in all eight games and went 2 for 2 with a double for Tampa at Camden Yards in 2006.
Nick Markakis: Is 3-10/0/2 in four career openers since 2006. He was 2 for 4 with two RBI in 2009.
Felix Pie: Is 1-4 in openers and started for the Cubs vs. Milwaukee in 2008.
Nolan Reimold: Never played in a Major League opener.
Brian Roberts: Batting .381-0-0 in six opening starts. The last two years, B-Rob is a combined 5 for 6 in openers with three walks.
Luke Scott: Is 3-12/1/3 in four career openers. He homered for Houston vs. Pittsburgh’s Zach Duke in 2007.
Craig Tatum: No games on Opening Day.
Miguel Tejada: He is batting .293-2-3 in 11 career opening games. The last four years, he is 9 for 17 with two homers in openers. In four O’s Opening Day starts, he is 6 for 15 with homers off Scott Kazmir and Johan Santana.
Matt Wieters: No career games on Opening Day.
Ty Wigginton: Is 2-23/0/1 in six openers including going 1 for 4 as DH last year vs. New York.
