In the Orioles’ recent history, one of their biggest trades was with Seattle in 2008 when they acquired Tony Butler, Kam Mickolio, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman and, of course, Adam Jones in exchange for Erik Bedard.
It didn’t take long for Jones to prove his value, making the All-Star team and winning a Gold Glove in his second season in Baltimore, but Tillman took more time to develop. It didn’t take long for Jones to prove his value, making the All-Star team and winning a Gold Glove in his second season in Baltimore, but Tillman took more time to develop. After four seasons of jumping between the majors and minors because of inconsistency, the right-hander proved that the O’s got more than just a stud outfielder when they traded Bedard.
In 2013, Tillman won 16 games with a 3.71 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 206 1/3 innings. Not only was he named to his first All-Star Game, but more importantly, Tillman emerged as the Orioles’ ace.
