Cruz and the Orioles reached agreement today to a one-year, $8 million contract with another $750,000 possible in incentives based on time spent on the major league roster.
In keeping with their policy, the Orioles won’t comment on the deal until Cruz passes his physical. However, multiple industry sources confirmed it this morning.
Because it’s the weekend, the physical may not take place until Monday morning. The Orioles would like to do it on Sunday, but they may not have a choice.
If that’s the case, there won’t be a press conference to announce the signing before Tuesday morning.
Also, outfielder Tyler Colvin agreed to terms on a minor league deal with the Giants, according to various reports.
The Orioles reached agreement with Colvin on a major league deal last month, but it fell through after his physical. According to sources, the Orioles were concerned about his back and attempted to sign him to a minor league contract.
