This week, I’m throwin’ it back to an early moment from 2013.
But describing it as just an “early” moment doesn’t do it justice. Yes, it is from very early in the season, but this moment was so much more.
In the third series of the season, the Orioles traveled to Boston to face their division foes. The Birds entered the top of the ninth down 5-3. The inning started off with a solo home run from Chris Davis, which cut Boston’s lead to one run.

In the third series of the season, the Orioles traveled to Boston to face their division foes. The Birds entered the top of the ninth down 5-3. The inning started off with a solo home run from Chris Davis, which cut Boston’s lead to one run.
With two quick outs following the homer, Ryan Flaherty kept the O’s hopes alive with a single to left. Pinch runner Alexi Casilla stole second before the next two batters walked to load the bases. Casilla scored on a wild pitch to tie it with Manny Machado at the plate with two outs.
I’m sure by now you can guess what happened next.
Machado’s three-run homer not only led the Orioles to a win that night, but it showed O’s fans that the 2012 BuckleUp Birds were here to stay. Relive Manny’s monster shot below and remember, just 18 days until the Birds buckle up for 2014.
