A team’s effort to get closer looks at everyone in camp while also being extremely cautious with everyday regular season players makes spring training look abnormal when compared to the actual season.

After rolling his ankle in a game Tuesday, Matt Wieters was immediately removed. However, he says he would have toughed it out if it was a regular season game. Miguel Gonzalez was also told to take it easy this week after being hit on the shin by a line drive.
Split-squad games and short outings for pitchers allowed the Orioles to get a closer look at many players this week, including Bud Norris, Wei-Yin Chen and Ubaldo Jimenez.
While spring training stats mean essentially nothing, Nick Markakis and Kevin Gausman’s performances have been noteworthy. These numbers beg a handful of questions, including: “Will Markakis have a bounceback year?” and “Is there a chance Gausman starts his season in Baltimore?”
Cuts also came this week. Three players were reassigned Sunday, and three more were cut Monday. Reliever Brock Huntzinger was reassigned Wednesday, and Dylan Bundy was optioned earlier today.
Before I leave you with headlines, I wanted to say congratulations to Adam Jones for the birth of his first child, a baby boy.
