The Triple-A Norfolk Tides now list Kevin Gausman as tonight’s starter after the Orioles held him out of last night’s game.
Gausman would have flown to Detroit if today’s game at Comerica Park had been postponed due to rain, forcing a doubleheader on Saturday. Manager Buck Showalter indicated that Gausman could have served as an extra reliever.

Gausman would have flown to Detroit if today’s game at Comerica Park had been postponed due to rain, forcing a doubleheader on Saturday. Manager Buck Showalter indicated that Gausman could have served as an extra reliever.
The Orioles were subjected to a 34-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning. Play resumed with Miguel Gonzalez returning to the mound, and Rajai Davis hit a three-run homer to give the Tigers a 6-2 lead.
Gonzalez had thrown 62 pitches, but he stayed in the game. I hope he grabbed a nap.
This game, by the way, has Josh Stinson written all over it. He’s warming again in the Orioles bullpen.
Steve Johnson, originally slated to start tonight at Norfolk, is pushed back to Saturday. Left-hander T.J. McFarland will start on Sunday.
Instant update: Stinson has replaced Gonzalez after Torii Hunter homered with one out in the fourth to increase the Tigers’ lead to 7-2.
Orioles starters have allowed 16 earned runs in 20 innings.
Also, opponents have reached base in 30 of 31 innings.
Update II: I guess the opening day buzz has worn off.
Josh Stinson allowed a run in the sixth and Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run shot off Ryan Webb in the eighth to increase Detroit’s lead to 10-2.
Webb did retire the side in order in the seventh. Zach Britton did it once on opening day. That’s been it.
Update III: The Orioles scored twice in the ninth off Joba Chamberlain on an RBI triple by Steve Clevenger and a Jonathan Schoop single, but it wasn’t nearly enough, as the Tigers registered a 10-4 win.
The Orioles have lost three in a row since winning on opening day.
Ryan Flaherty went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and is 0-for-15 with seven strikeouts this season.
