Well, look at Chris Tillman dishing out three clean innings to start today’s game against the Tigers. That makes eight for the Orioles’ pitching staff in 2014.
Jonathan Schoop is on the 25-man roster because Manny Machado is on the disabled list following knee surgery. He’s in today’s lineup because of J.J. Hardy’s back spasms.

Jonathan Schoop is on the 25-man roster because Manny Machado is on the disabled list following knee surgery. He’s in today’s lineup because of J.J. Hardy’s back spasms.
Opportunity can be found in many places, including body parts.
Schoop may have gotten an infield hit in the third inning if he hadn’t stumbled coming out of the box. The legs were pumping and the body couldn’t keep him. Must have a little too much “want to” in him.
The replay system was down earlier at Comerica Park. Good thing the Orioles didn’t want to review Schoop’s face-plant.
Nick Markakis singled with one out in the first inning, making him 5-for-22 this season. He’s hit safely in four of six games – all singles – after going 16-for-45 (.356) with six doubles, a triple and a home run in spring training.
Ryan Flaherty bounced to second base. He’s now 0-for-16 with seven strikeouts. No loud outs, either.
Former Orioles outfielder Darnell McDonald announced his retirement yesterday on Instagram.
The Orioles made McDonald the 26th-overall pick in the 1997 First-Year Player Draft, four slots after they took Jayson Werth. He appeared in 17 games in 2004 before signing with the Indians as a free agent the following winter.
Update: The clean inning streak ends in the fourth with Torii Hunter’s solo home run.
Yeah, that guy. Again.
Flaherty drew a nine-pitch walk in the fifth.
Update II: Adam Jones and Nelson Cruz doubled in the sixth to tie the game 1-1.
Tillman is the second Orioles starter to complete six innings and he’s only at 80 pitches. Three hits, one walk, four strikeouts.
Just avoid Hunter and he should be fine.
