Ubaldo Jimenez became the latest O’s starter not named Chris Tillman to struggle. The offense didn’t provide much help, either, as the Orioles lost 4-2 in the Yankees’ home opener at Yankee Stadium.

The Orioles fall to 1-3 on this road trip and 2-5 on the season.

Jimenez struggled with his control throughout his start. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four runs with five walks and four strikeouts. He threw 109 pitches, 65 for strikes.

Jimenez is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA over his first two Orioles starts with eight walks over 10 2/3 innings. In five career starts against New York, Jimenez is 1-4 with an ERA of 6.67, giving up 20 runs in 27 innings.

The Orioles are 2-0 when Tillman starts, but 0-5 when anyone else does. While Tillman has an ERA of 1.35 on the year, the other O’s starters have pitched to an ERA of 8.76 and have given up at least four earned runs in each contest.

The Orioles offense produced three or fewer runs for the fifth time in seven games. Matt Wieters plated a run to tie the game at 1-1 with a fourth-inning single and a Nelson Cruz RBI single in the seventh made it a 4-2 game, but Ryan Flaherty and Jonathan Schoop made the inning’s last two outs, stranding two runners.

The O’s have scored just 22 runs on the year and have hit just three homers.

Hiroki Kuroda, who pitched 16 shutout innings at home in 2013 against the Orioles, got today’s win, giving up eight hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings as New York improved to 4-3.

In the second game of this series tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m., Wei-Yin Chen (0-1, 6.35 ERA) pitches for the Orioles against right-hander Ivan Nova (1-0, 3.18 ERA).
