NEW YORK – The Orioles gave left-hander Wei-Yin Chen a six-run lead today and he handed back three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
It’s never easy in the Bronx.
Chen has allowed nine hits in five innings today, increasing his total to 21 over 10 2/3 frames. He’s thrown 102 pitches, 65 for strikes.
Josh Stinson had been warming in the bullpen with the Orioles holding a 7-4 lead, but he took a seat after Brian McCann grounded out to end the fifth and strand Jacoby Ellsbury at third.

Chen has thrown 21, 13, 19, 30 and 19 pitches in his five innings. He’s surrendered four runs and nine hits, walked none and stuck out three. Sixty-five of his 102 pitches are strikes.
Chris Tillman is the only Orioles starter to work beyond the sixth inning in the first eight games. Ubaldo Jimenez went six in his first start.
Down on the farm, Suk-min Yoon makes his debut tonight at Triple-A Norfolk.
Update: Have yourself a day, Delmon Young.
Young just hit his first home run as an Oriole, a two-run shot off left-hander Vidal Nuno in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 9-4. Young is 3-for-4 today.
Pretty good idea for manager Buck Showalter to give Young the start as the designated hitter.
Matt Wieters’ sacrifice fly and Nelson Cruz’s RBI single in the sixth gave the Orioles an 11-4 lead.
The bats are awake.
Nick Markakis singled before Young’s home run, his second hit of the day. Adam Jones has homered, doubled and walked in four plate appearances. Steve Lombardozzi, Ryan Flaherty and Jonathan Schoop each have two hits.
Stinson will work the sixth inning.
