BOSTON – Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy left tonight’s game after the sixth inning with a strained right hamstring. He’s listed as day to day.

Hardy apparently suffered the injury while running the bases in the top of the fifth. He singled with two outs and tried to score from first on David Lough’s ground rule double. Hardy had to go back to third base.

Steve Lombardozzi pinch-hit for Hardy in the top of the seventh and is playing second base. Jonathan Schoop moved to third base and Ryan Flaherty moved to short.

Flaherty was just charged with an error in the seventh inning after dropping the ball while trying to transfer it. The Orioles have five errors this season – three by Schoop and two by Flaherty. The previous four occurred at third base.

Hardy missed six games this season with spasms and tightness in his lower back. He still receives treatment on it, but told me earlier today that he no longer has the spasms.

It’s doubtful that Hardy will be in Monday morning’s lineup.

Update: We’re tied.

David Ortiz had an RBI single off Britton and Schoop bounced a throw to catcher Matt Wieters after fielding Mike Napoli’s grounder with the bases loaded for his fourth error of the season.

Evan Meek replaced Britton after Ortiz’s single. He struck out Daniel Nava to leave the bases loaded.

Both of the runs off Britton were unearned, so his scoreless innings streak continues.

Update II: David Lough committed the Orioles’ third error of the night and it produced a 6-5 walk-off win for the Red Sox.

Lough caught pinch-hitter Mike Carp’s liner for the second out of the ninth inning, but he fired the ball past catcher Matt Wieters, allowing Dustin Pedroia to score.

Grady Sizemore struck out to start the inning, but Pedroia doubled off the top of the Green Monster. The umpires reviewed it to make sure it wasn’t a home run after a fan reached for the ball. Pedroia was 2-for-13 versus Brian Matusz.

Pedroia moved to third on a wild pitch, and David Ortiz was walked intentionally despite being 1-for-20 with 12 strikeouts against Matusz.

O’Day replaced Matusz with runners on the corners and one out, and he drilled Mike Napoli on the left knee to load the bases for Carp.

Schoop appeared to have an opportunity to cut off Lough’s throw after he caught Carp’s liner, but did not.
