The Orioles could have four left-handers in their bullpen with the addition of McFarland. It already holds Britton, Brian Matusz and Troy Patton.
When is the last time that the ‘pen has leaned so heavily to the left?
McFarland found out yesterday that the Orioles were summoning him to Tampa, about two hours before his scheduled start for Triple-A Norfolk. He arrived last night.
“Now, I’m waiting,” he said. “I don’t know really know much. You guys (reporters) probably know more than I do. Nothing’s happened just yet, so we’ll have to wait and see what move they make.
“I don’t know when it’s going to happen. We’ll find out. You get the call and you just come, obviously. Figure out all the details later.”
McFarland has made two appearances with the Orioles, allowing one run and five hits in four innings. He’s 0-1 with a 3.44 ERA in four starts with Norfolk, with 19 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings.
McFarland is rested. He hasn’t pitched since working 3 2/3 innings on April 29.
Back in Sarasota, outfielder Nolan Reimold had five plate appearances today in a simulated game at the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
