The Orioles reinstated first baseman Chris Davis from the paternity list and optioned a catcher to make room for him.

Surprisingly, the Orioles are sending Steve Clevenger to Triple-A Norfolk.
Caleb Joseph figured to be the most vulnerable because he bats right-handed, as does newly acquired Nick Hundley, and Clevenger began the season as Matt Wieters’ backup.

Clevenger, 28, has batted .243/.300/.378 with eight doubles, a triple and eight RBIs in 24 games with the Orioles this season. He’s thrown out 3-of-20 runners attempting to steal.
Joseph has only one hit in 23 at-bats, but he’s thrown out four of 10 runners attempting to steal. His defense apparently has given him an edge.
That’s quite a statement, given the organization’s concerns about his work behind the plate prior to the 2013 minor league season. Joseph has made huge strides.
Hundley apparently will get the majority of starts. He’s a career .199 hitter against left-handers, however, which could provide opportunities for Joseph.
Wieters still hasn’t been cleared to throw, but no decision has been made regarding surgery. He’s optimistic that he eventually will be able to rejoin the active roster this summer.
