Julio Lugo, Delwyn Young, Ramon Vazquez, Augie Ojeda, and Gregorio Petit are mentioned as possible fits. The Orioles will see Young again tonight in Bradenton.
Justin Turner probably is the most logical in-house candidate, especially if it’s only for a brief period of time, but he’s been slowed by a foot injury. He’s expected to play tonight.
Maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves here, but president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail lit that candle yesterday when he expressed concern over Roberts’ back.
The team’s training staff still believes Roberts will be ready by Opening Day, which would require 25-30 at-bats this spring.
There’s still time, but the clock is ticking. And it’s getting louder.
