The Orioles are prepared to handle third baseman Manny Machado’s suspension. They just need to know when it starts and how long it lasts.
They’re confident that the suspension will be reduced from five games.

They’re confident that the suspension will be reduced from five games.
The Orioles have an extra reliever and could send down one while calling up an infielder as Machado’s replacement. Jemile Weeks is on short-season Single-A Aberdeen’s roster, a relatively short drive to Camden Yards.
The only complication arrives on Tuesday, when the Orioles need a starter to face the Rangers. They could use left-hander T.J. McFarland, but sending out a reliever while Machado serves his suspension would leave them short in the bullpen.
“That’s why you’re cautious about giving up a relief pitcher for someone to replace Manny,” said manager Buck Showalter. “We really don’t have someone on the roster that you feel like physically can go real deep.
“We don’t have to do anything. There’s 50-50 we won’t do anything. Just try to withstand it with the people we have.”
If McFarland is the choice to start on Tuesday, the Orioles will attempt to avoid using him following today’s game. However, circumstances could force him into a game Sunday or Monday, which would eliminate him from consideration.
“We’re going to try to win Saturday, Sunday and Monday and see who’s standing on Tuesday,” Showalter said. “We have other options.”
Showalter repeated that Kevin Gausman isn’t an option Tuesday on short rest.
The Orioles must make a decision on outfielder Nolan Reimold by Monday, and it would take effect the following day.
Reimold is completing his rehab assignment this weekend with Double-A Bowie. He’s out of options and would have to be added to the 25-man roster or exposed to waivers.
Reimold is 15-for-46 (.326) in 15 games, with three doubles, two homers, nine RBIs, nine runs scored, 11 walks and 11 strikeouts.
“I know we’ve had some discussions about it,” Showalter said. “Brady (Anderson) has been down there a few times. He’s up to speed on it. He talks to Nolan a lot. Obviously, there’s a pending move there.”
Showalter talked to catcher Matt Wieters between games of yesterday’s doubleheader.
“I asked him how he’s doing, checking in on him,” Showalter said. “He’s upbeat. Soreness starting to go away. He’s right on schedule. He’s doing well.”
Showalter doesn’t know when Wieters will visit the club and he isn’t pressing the catcher for an answer.
“Matt knows this is a very important time and he’s got a real good setup there in Atlanta,” Showalter said. “We’ll see him when we see him. His wife and he have a real good marriage. He’s not looking to go on a road trip or something. We’d love to have him around, but I don’t know. I’m not going to ask him. He knows how welcome he is anytime.”
The report on Dylan Bundy, who tossed five more scoreless innings last night at Aberdeen, included a notation that his curveball was much better. Still no decision on where Bundy will make his next start and whether he will begin working on regular rest.
Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Henry Urrutia, on the disabled list following sports hernia surgery, is doing full baseball activities and soon should be cleared to play in games.
Tides infielder Alexi Casilla is on the DL with a broken hamate bone.
