Had Chris Tillman been removed from today’s game in the middle of an inning, he would have received a standing ovation on his walk to the dugout.
Instead, Tillman will have to settle for the high praise coming from his manager and teammates following the game.
Tillman shut out the Mariners on four hits over seven innings, with no walks and six strikeouts. He was removed after 101 pitches, 65 for strikes.

That’s another quality start for Tillman – his fifth in the last six outings and ninth in the last 11 since the one-inning debacle in Texas.
Tillman has a 2.03 ERA in six career starts against the Mariners. He hasn’t won in his last six starts this season, going 0-1 with five no-decisions.
The Orioles are clinging to a 1-0 lead and Zach Britton is warming in the bullpen.
Andrew Miller, in his second appearance with the Orioles, retired the Mariners in order in the eighth. He threw 10 pitches, striking out two batters.

Update: Game over. The Orioles picked up their ninth shutout with a 1-0 victory over the Mariners, enabling them to win their 19th series.
The Orioles improved to 62-48 overall and 8-10 on Sundays.
Zach Britton earned his 23rd save. His 27 straight scoreless appearances at home ties Brian Matusz’s franchise record.
