CHICAGO – Orioles third baseman Manny Machado won’t be ready to come off the disabled list when he’s eligible on Wednesday, according to manager Buck Showalter.
Machado hasn’t started baseball activities, and Showalter said he’d provide more information before Saturday’s game.
“No plan right now,” Showalter said. “Probably update you a little bit next few days where he is. I talked to him a little bit today, have a little bit better idea of how that’s proceeding. Machado hasn’t started baseball activities, and Showalter said he’d provide more information before Saturday’s game.
“No plan right now,” Showalter said. “Probably update you a little bit next few days where he is. I talked to him a little bit today, have a little bit better idea of how that’s proceeding. It’s kind of tough with the day games and everything.”
Machado is on the disabled list with a sprained ligament in his right knee. That’s as specific as the Orioles have been regarding the injury.
The only update now is that he won’t come off the DL in the middle of next week.
“No. That won’t happen,” Showalter said. “I’ll probably try to bring some clarity and everything to where we are with that situation, try to gather exactly what he’s being told, as far as when baseball activities would start and all that stuff. I’ll try to clear that up for you probably tomorrow and get a more definitive idea.”
Steve Pearce was sick this morning and Showalter wrote out two lineups in case the first baseman is a late scratch.
Pearce is 7-for-18 with four doubles, two home runs and four runs scored in the last four games.
“His timing’s good,” Showalter said. “He’s been really good for the team. It seems like every time there’s been a real need, Steve’s been there for us. Hard to do what he does, but he’s kind of re-emerged at a level that he was really spoiling us with at a really opportune time.”
