Adam Jones found out last week that the Orioles were renewing his contract for $465,000.
Jones, who earned $435,000 last year, seems to be taking the news in stride. It may be more upsetting than he’s showing, but I give him credit for not creating a controversy.
“It’s part of the process. You sign and play out this year,” he said.
“You keep it in-house. There’s no bad blood between both sides.”

Jones is arbitration-eligible after the season, so his millions are coming.
“There’s no need for both sides to get into any war,” he said. “No need for it. Just play out this year.
“Before you’re arbitration-eligible, I guess they can do whatever they want. Let the process take care of itself.”
The Orioles did the same thing to Nick Markakis, and he signed a six-year, $66 million contract extension last winter.
Jones said he’s not aware of any talks between the Orioles and his agent regarding an extension, but you figure it’s going to happen at some point.
“Both sides will come to something,” he said. “If they want me to be around a long time, I’d love to be around a long time. I think they express the same interest. Let Andy (MacPhail) and my agent, let them do their work.”
