Infielder Garabez Rosa, who batted .282 with 27 doubles, 11 home runs and 69 RBIs in 124 games at Double-A Bowie, will join the taxi squad in Sarasota.

Manager Buck Showalter said he expects shortstop J.J. Hardy to start Wednesday night against the Reds. Hardy is available tonight.

Showalter added that first baseman Steve Pearce is “real close.” I wrote earlier today that Pearce is aiming for the weekend series against the Rays at Tropicana Field.

The Orioles will take another team photo after third baseman Manny Machado rejoins the team on Sept. 17. Too many regulars were missing from the first one.

Showalter said he considered starting Kelly Johnson tonight, but the veteran infielder is 0-for-8 with five strikeouts against Reds starter Mat Latos.

Johan Santana, who tore his Achilles tendon while fielding a ball on June 6, will be reexamined on Sept. 9. He remains Orioles property.

The Orioles aren’t expected to re-sign Santana. We’ll see.

Before yesterday’s 6-4 loss to the Twins, the Orioles had won 21 consecutive games when scoring four or more runs (July 19 to Aug. 31). They were 29-1 in their previous 30 games when tallying at least four runs.

The Orioles are 61-14 when scoring four or more runs this season.

Nelson Cruz and Toronto’s Edwin Encarnacion are tied for most interleague home runs this season with eight. Cruz is one short of the Orioles’ record set by Chris Davis in 2013.
