Right-hander Joe Kelly gets the start for the Red Sox. In eight starts with Boston, he is 2-2 with a 4.21 ERA. In 47 innings he has walked 27 and fanned 33.
Kelly took the loss in his only 2014 start against the Orioles on Sept. 8 when he gave up four runs in 6 1/3 innings.
With one more win, the Orioles will record their highest single-season victory total since winning 98 games in 1997. The O’s last won 99 or more games in 1980, when that club finished the season with 100 wins, the fifth most in club history. The 1969 O’s 109 wins are the club’s single-season record.
The Orioles are currently 14 games up in the division and could become the first team since the 2006 Yankees (10 games) to win the American League East by double digits.
The Orioles are an MLB-best 31-9 (.775) at home since June 30 and are the 11th team in club history to record at least 50 home wins. The O’s have not lost consecutive home games since June 28-29.
