A four-homer game would have worked a little better tonight.

“(Brian) Matusz pitched about as good a game as you’re going to get,” he said. “Had location, had a feel for all his pitches, worked ahead, worked quick, pitched down. Tremendous game.

“Tonight was similar to what we’ve been seeing for the last week. We’re not closing the games out out of the bullpen. We’re not getting outs when we need to get outs. It’s no one guy. It’s kind of getting spread around to a little bit of everybody now. We’re just not getting outs out of the bullpen when we need them and we wasted another good start.”

Shifting his focus to Matusz’s eighth inning, Trembley said, “He had the lineup right for him. He had seven, eight, nine coming up and it just seemed like they were swinging, he got some pitches up and they got some good hits. Just happened real quick for him. Up to that point, he was, as I said, about as good as you’re going to get.”

Trembley used Matt Albers for the third straight game. He didn’t consider going to Jason Berken to start the 10th because “Albers is a guy who’s going to come in and throw the sinker and get some ground balls.”

“The ball’s not down and his curveball is just being taken. It’s not being thrown for a strike,” Trembley said.

The Orioles are 10-for-63 (.159) with runners in scoring position this season.

Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk’s Chris Tillman was charged with three runs (the last two scoring after he left the game) and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. He’s 0-2 with a 5.19 ERA.

Scott Moore had two hits and Rhyne Hughes extended his hitting streak to five games. Robert Andino went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and is batting .176.

Zach Britton picked up his first win for Double-A Bowie after allowing one run and five hits, with six strikeouts, in six innings. Wilfrido Perez picked up his second save and hasn’t allowed a run this season.

Ronnie Welty homered twice and drove in five runs for Single-A Frederick. Billy Rowell, serving as the designated hitter, went 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored.
